FERRY BOAT COLLISION IN NEW YORK HARBOR

NEW YORK-Two ferryboats collided in New York Harbor at about 7:10 a.m. today.

The Enduring Freedom, a 65-foot ferry boat, and the Christopher Columbus, a 78-foot ferry boat, collided when the Enduring Freedom was approaching Pier 11 in Manhattan and the Christopher Columbus was departing.

One passenger on board the Christopher Columbus reported a minor cut caused by the incident.  No damage or pollution was reported. There were an estimated 150 passengers on each vessel.

"We quickly dispatched investigators and they are on scene now," said Chief Petty Officer James Moore, the Command Duty Officer at Sector New York.

Both of the ferries are owned by BillyBey Ferry Company.

At the time winds were 5-10 mph, seas were 1-2 feet.
