Coast Guard Urges Boaters to Prepare for Storm

New York - The Coast Guard is urging boaters and kayakers to take precautions due to coastal and urban flood warnings throughout Connecticut and Long Island this weekend.
The National Weather Service is predicting an estimated 2-4 inches of rain to fall Friday night into Saturday leading to potential flooding in low lying areas.  High winds are also expected.
“People living in and around waterways should be sure to secure any small crafts, kayaks, or equipment located near the water,” said CDR. Robert McKenna, Chief of Response for Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound.  “In addition to securing movable objects, it is also important to be mindful of any hazardous materials that may be affected by rising flood waters.  Both the heavy rains and rising waters may affect containment and flood boundaries.  Ensuring that hazardous materials are secured prior to the rains will prevent the materials from ever entering the water and affecting the environment.”
