COAST GUARD TO HOST GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY

BOSTON - The Commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Thad Allen is scheduled to preside over a ground breaking ceremony 1:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 20 at the Coast Guard’s Long Island Sound headquarters, 120 Woodward Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut. 
The ground breaking ceremony is for a $10 million command building including a state of the art command center which will provide command and control for all Coast Guard activities in Long Island Sound, as well as the south shore and offshore waters of Long Island.  This new facility, which is scheduled to be occupied in the summer of 2008, will also serve as a multi-agency command post for special events and emergencies in the region.

The Coast Guard’s Facilities Design and Construction Center Atlantic has contracted with, Ames and Whitaker Architects of Waterbury, CT to design the new building and Diversified Technology Consultants of North Haven, CT to build new facility.  Construction is scheduled to begin November 2006.
