Coast Guard medevacs ailing fisherman near Carolina Beach Inlet, N.C.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Rescue crews from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach, N.C., medevaced an ailing fisherman from a 31-foot fishing boat 12 miles southeast of Carolina Beach Inlet, N.C., Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina were contacted by the crew of the 31-foot fishing vessel Why Not, reporting that a fisherman onboard was suffering seizures and needed assistance.

Coast Guard Rescue crews aboard a 47-foot motor lifeboat and a 25-foot rescue boat from Station Wrightsville Beach were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arriving the Coast Guard transferred the patient to the motor lifeboat for the transit back to land. The patient was then transferred to the crew of the rescue boat who took the patient to the Inland Watch Yacht Club where he was turned over to emergency medical personnel and taken to New Hanover County Hospital for treatment.
