Coast Guard crew rescues 2 off Battery Island, N.C.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Coast Guard rescued two people Monday who were reported overdue off the North Carolina coast.

Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector North Carolina received a call at 10:20 p.m. from the father of one of the crewmembers. He stated the two people had not returned from their fishing trip aboard a 15-foot boat.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Oak Island, N.C., a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facilities Charleston, members of Ocean Rescue and the local police department responded to the report. The Ocean Rescue crew located the two people on Battery Island.

The rescue boat crew from Station Oak Island arrived on scene and transported them to the Oak Island Wild Life boat ramp.
